Jonas Fredriksson received his M.Sc. in Computer Science Engineering from Luleå University of Technology, Sweden in 1997 and Ph.D. in Automatic Control from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden in 2002. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. His research activities include modeling, control and simulation, with a special interest in automotive applications.

The increasing volumes of road freight transport necessitate the development of new fuel efficient transport systems. A transition from the standard tractor-semitrailer transport solution to longer vehicle combinations could be one way. Unfortunately, long heavy vehicle combinations has so far not been a solution, as legislation does not allow these long road vehicles and the main reasons are maneuverability and safety. In this talk, I will discuss how electromobility can be used as an enabler for long vehicle combinations with respect to energy efficiency, safety and maneuverability.
